Is The Nook closing?

This is the question of the hour, and the answer is

NO!

The Nook Cafe was for sale, but is currently off the market. Until the point in which The Nook changes hands, Tammy, Steve and Oliver will continue operating The Nook as the thriving cafe it is. We will continue to make The Nook Cafe the best thing in downtown Kenosha.

How long has The Nook been located at 5703 6th Avenue?

The Nook Cafe and Bakery was opened in early 2006 by Tammy Martin, in response to the lack of vegan options available at area restaurants. Sadly, Ms. Martin closed The Nook in February of 2008. Tammy and Steve Peacy decided they'd like to give the cafe life a try and, with the help of a friend, re-opened The Nook Cafe (minus the bakery) on April 28th, 2008. In keeping with the original intent of offering Kenosha's vegan and vegetarian residents a place to eat, the Peacys have kept the menu except for the addition of a full breakfast and a few other goodies. If you haven't stopped by in a while, come back in and try us out again.

Does the Nook Cafe serve meat?

Yes, we do. However, even our omnivorous guests enjoy our vegan and vegetarian options, and we encourage everyone to give them a try.

Why is the hummus green?

Our hummus is green because of the parsley! Not all hummus contains parsley and many times hummus is the color of chickpeas (which are kind of beige). Aside from adding flavor, parsley is an anticarcinogen, contains three times as much vitamin C as oranges, and twice as much iron as spinach. Parsley contains vitamin A and is a good source of copper and manganese. So, the parsley is one of the reasons The Nook Cafe serves the best hummus in Kenosha.

Sometimes the hummus is greener than other times, why is that?

At The Nook we make most of our foods from scratch, and because of this there may be some variances in color or texture, but it will ALWAYS taste awesome!

How do I hang my art at The Nook?

Check our Music/Art page for updates and calls for artists. Please, do not call The Nook in regards to hanging your art in the cafe.

I'm in a band, can I play at The Nook?

Maybe. We currently host music at the cafe on Friday nights and the second Saturday of each month. Contact Rachel through our myspace page to work out the details. www.myspace.com/nookcafe
